Don't Forget!

Mr. Mettler’s 6th graders were inspired by the kindness challenge presented to them yesterday. They surprised Miss Jarvela’s 3rd grade with kind notes on their desks. What a way to make someone’s day!

We want to take a moment to address a situation that occurred today at the A.D. Johnston High School and reassure you of the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Earlier today, we had an isolated incident between two students inside of a classroom. The students were brought to the office, separately, after the teacher responded to the incident and law enforcement was notified. The incident is being investigated and has been handed over to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department.
We commend our students and staff for following our established school protocol in an exemplary manner. The cooperation, calmness, and quick response shown by everyone involved ensured a safe and secure environment.
We understand that such situations can be emotionally taxing for both students and staff. We encourage you to engage in open and honest discussions at home about today's events. Our school counselor and other appropriate staff members have been dealing with the emotional responses that accompany situations like this with the students.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Sincerely,
Richard Matrella, Superintendent
Nicholas Heikkila, 7-12 Principal
Bessemer Area School District

First graders in Mrs. Greenough's class had differing reactions to apple tasting last week.

THANK YOU!! Miss Jarvela’s 3rd grade class would like to thank their ice cream sale sponsors, Erika Buchanan and the Ironwood Walmart, for their generous donations!
